Draw a plot showing the variation of photoelectric current with collector plate potential for two different frequencies, v_(1) gt v_(2), of incident radiation having the same intensity. In which case will the stopping potential be higher ? Justify your answer. |
Answer» Solution : A plot showing the variation of photoelectric current `i` with COLLECTOR plate potential for two DIFFERENT frequencies `v_(1) and v_(2)" "("where "v_(1)gtv_(2))` of incident radiation having the same intensity has been shown in figure. Stopping potential is higher for frequency `v_(1)`, i.e., `(V_(0))_(1)gt(V_(0))_(2)`. As per Einstein.s photoelectric equation, we have `hv=phi_(0)+K_(max)=phi_(0)+eV_(0)`. From this equation, it is very MUCH clear that value of stopping potential `V_(0)` will INCREASE with increase in the frequency of the incident radiation. in fact. `h(v_(1)-v_(2))=e[(V_(0))_(1)-(V_(0))_(2)]`. |
