Answer» Sunita Williams is an American astronaut. Her two spaceflights to the International Space STATION combined lasted more than 321 days, ranking her second (after American astronaut Peggy Whitson) for most time spent in space by a woman.In 1983 Sunita Williams entered the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland. She was MADE an ensign in 1987 and reported for aviator training at the Naval Aviation Training COMMAND. Williams completed an M.S. in engineering management at the Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne in 1995, and she entered astronaut training in 19thAfter she completed aviator training, Sunita Williams flew in helicopter support squadrons during preparations for the Persian GULF War and the establishment of no-fly zones over Kurdish areas of Iraq, as well as in relief missions following Hurricane ANDREW in 1992 in Miami. On her space missions, she made repairs and conducted research. |
