1.

Explain impurity defect.

Answer»

Solution : Impurity defect:
(i)This defect ARISES when a cation from its regular site in ionic crystal lattice is replaced by different cations.
(ii) If the impurity cation is SUBSTITUTED in the place of regular cation, then it is called substitution impurity defect.

(III) If the impurity of cation is present in the interstitial positionsthen it is called interstitial impurity defect.
(iv) Theinterstitialimpurity defectchanges the propertiesof the ORIGNAL CRYSTALLINE soilds.
