Explain the following with suitable examples : (i) Tranquilizers(ii) Anaesthetics

Solution :(i) Tranquilizers . These are substances USED to relieve mental diseases. They reduce tension and anxiety. They ACT on higher centres of nervous system. These are the constituents of sleeping pills. The common examples are:
Derivatives of barbituric ACID, equanil, luminal, dizapam, methadrine etc.
(ii) ANAESTHETICS. These are substances which produce general or local insensibility to pains and other sensations. Cocaine, inovacaine are local anaesthetics, Chloroform, diethyl and VINYL ethers, etc. are general anaesthetics.
