Explain the use Zener diode as a voltage regulator. |
Answer» Solution : The circuit connections are made as shown in the figure. The circuit contains a zener diode, an unregulated voltage source (`V_"in" > V_Z`), a series resistance `R_S` and a load resistance `R_L`. Any increase/decrease of voltage drop ACROSS `R_S` produce no change in voltage across the zener diode. For (`V_"in" < V_Z`), the zener diode does not function. THUS the zener diode ACTS as voltage REGULATOR. |
