Explain vacancy and interstitial defects. |
Answer» SOLUTION :(i) VACANCY Defect : When some of the lattice sites are vacant, the crystal is said to have vacancy defect. This results in DECREASE in density of substance. The density of the crystal can also be decreased by HEATING. (ii) Interstitial Defect : When some of the atoms or molecules OCCUPY an interstitial site, the crystal is said to have interstitial defects. The density of crystal increases by this defect.
