Sound waves, VISIBLE LIGHT waves, radio waves and waves on a STRING are few examples of waves. $\bigstar$ Transverse wave : If the particles of medium VIBRATE perpendicular to the direction of the wave motion, the wave is called as transverse wave. Example : wave of string of sitar/violin rods and water waves. $\bigstar$ Electromagnetic wave : The waves which may not REQUIRE medium for their propagation are known as Electromagnetic waves or non mechanical waves. Example : X - rays, gamma rays, micro waves.
