Explain what is observed (i) when a beam of light is passed through a colloidal solution (ii) an electrolyte, NaCl is added to ferric hydroxide sol (or hydrated ferric oxide sol in water) (iii) electric current is passed through acolloidal sol. |
| Answer» Solution :(i) Scattering of light by the colloidal particles takes place3 and the path of light BECOMES visible (TYNDALL efect). (ii) The positively charged colloidal particles of `FE(OH)_(3)` get conagulated by the oppositely charged `Cl^(-)` ions provided by naCl. (iii) On passing an electric CURRENT, colloidal particles move towerds charged oppositely chargbed electrode where they lose their charge and get coagulated. | |
