We can write 343 as 7^3

Now,

==> 1 / 7^(x - 8) = 7^3

==> 7^[-( x - 8 )] = 7^ 3

Now by comparing both sides

==> - ( x - 8 ) = 3

==> 8 - x = 3

==> x = 8 - 3

==> x = 5
