Answer» Full marks of TWO examination PAPERS are in the ratio of 2 : 3. A candidate OBTAINS 60% marks in the first paper and 70% in the two papers, taken together. To find : the percentage of marks got by him in the second paper. solution : let full marks of 1st and 2nd papers are 2k and 3k RESPECTIVELY. obtained marks in the first paper = 60% of 2k = 60 × 2k/100 = 1.2k obtained marks in both papers = 70% of (2k + 3k) = 70 % of 5k = 70 × 5k/100 = 3.5k so the candidate obtains mark in the second paper = 3.5k - 1.2k = 2.3k marks in percentage = 2.3k/3k × 100 = 230/3 = 76.67 % Therefore the candidate got 76.67 % marks in the second paper. |
