Generalisation of war |
|
Answer» Answer: Columnist Kathleen Parker is concerned that the discovery of a few bad apples among thousands of good U.S. soldiers will cause the world to generalize this behavior to all U.S. soldiers (Commentary, May 5). She quotes a Vietnam veteran who fears that this will become the My Lai of Iraq: "After the My Lai massacre, the PEACE activists and others began REFERRING to all VETERANS of that war as `murderers' and `baby killers.'" Although a few individuals might have referred to all soldiers as murderers, to generalize this to the millions of Americans who opposed the Vietnam war is ridiculous and dishonest.
