Answer» Solution :Distinction between propanal and propanone `underset("Propanal")(CH_(3) CH_(2) CHO ) ` `underset( "Propanone")(CH_(3) COCH_(3))` The two compounds can be distinguished by the following TESTS `:` Schiff.s reagent test `:` Propanal gives a piink colour with Schiff.s reagent while propanone doe snot Iodofom test `:` Propanone givesa yellow precipitate of `CHI_(3)` when treated with NaOI or `I_(2) //NaOH`, while propanal does not. (b) Distinction between benzaldehyde and acetophenone `:` `underset("Benzaldehyde ")(C_(6)H_(5) CHO ) ` `underset("Acetophenone")(C_(6)H_(6)COCH_(3))` Acetophenone which contains `CH_(3)CO` - group gives a yellow precipitate of `CHI_(3)` on treatment with NaOI or `I_(2) //NaOH` reagent .Benzaldehyde does not GIVE this test. |
