Answer» Solution :(i) ETHANAL and Propanal `:` Ethanal `( CH_(3) CHO ) ` and propanal `( CH_(3)CH_(2)CHO)` can be distinguished by performing iodoform test. Ethanal gives a yellow precipitate of `CHI_(3)` while propanal does not REACT. `CH_(3) CHO OVERSET( NaOH ) ( rarr) HCOONa + CHI_(3)` (ii) Phenol and Benzoic acid `:` Benzoic acid gives an effervescence with a solution of sodium hydrogen carbonate while phenol shows no ACTION. |
