Grignard reagent of C_(6)H_(5)Cl can be prepared in THF but not in ether. Explain why? |
| Answer» Solution :DUE to +R-effect of Cl, the C-Cl bond has some double bond character and hence little more difficult to break. In other WORDS,ENERGY of activation for cleavage of C-Cl bond is little higher which cannot be supplied by the low boiling point (b.p. 308 K) of ether but can be easily supplied by the little higher b.p. (340 K) of THF. | |
