Answer» A “big bang” attempt at a CMDB/CMS is almost guaranteed to fail. Like any other AMBITIOUS JOURNEY, you MAKE progress one step at a time. We do advocate building the HIGHER layers of abstraction, but infrastructure is a necessary foundation that supports these higher layers. Get the lower levels to a reasonable state of maturity before moving “up the stack,” and your journey will be easier. A GROWING number of organizations are now in a position to make this move, as their infrastructure layer is in a more capable state. A “big bang” attempt at a CMDB/CMS is almost guaranteed to fail.
