Answer» Gandhiji wanted to eliminate caste discrimination through internal reform in Hinduism. Gandhiji was a staunch Hindu with total faith in Hinduism including its caste system which was originally based on Varna or individual qualities and not by heridity. There was no discrimination in original Varna system in Hinduism. He was against untouchability. For this he himself started living with untouchables and called them Harijan or God in Human Form. He said that God can be seen the face of poor man. Service of the poor is the service of God as said by Vivekananda. He gave up western clothes and started wearing loin cloth, the dress of the poor Indian. In this way he wanted to set personal exsmple to remove untouchability or casteism |
