How does diffraction limit the resolving power of an optical intstrument ? |
| Answer» Solution :The problem in identification of nearby points arises on account of diffraction of LIGHT, i.e. bending of light AROUND corners. When two POINT objects lie closeby, their diffraction patterns may overlap. Therefore, their images can no longer be identified separately. Hence their resolution BECOMES difficult. Thus the resolving power of the optical instrument is limited. | |
