How does H_(2)SO_(4)react with KCl and KBr? |
|
Answer» Solution :`H_(2)SO_(4)` is WEAKER oxidant than Cl, but STRONGER oxidant than `Br_(2)`. `H_(2)SO_(4)`LIBERATES HCl with KCl, but does not give `Cl_(2)`. `H_(2)SO_(4)+2KClrarr2HCl+K_(2)SO_(4)` `H_(2)SO_(4)` liberates HBr with KBr, which is finally oxidised to `Br_(2)`. `2H_(2)SO_(4)+2KBr rarr K_(2)SO_(4)+2H_(2)O+SO_(2)+Br_(2)` |
