How many of the following compounds can be used as an acylating agent ? (i) CH_(3)COCl, (ii) (CH_(3)CO)_(2)O (iii) CH_(3)COOH,(iv) CH_(2)CH_(2)COCl.

Answer»

Solution :Stronger the basic NATURE of the leaving group, weaker will be its leavability. In `CH_(3)COOH, OH^(-)` is a strong BASE so it can’t be removed easily to form `CH_3C^(+)O`required for acetylation (ACYLATION).
