The first method to prevent this attack would be to have an end to end encryption between both the parties. This way, they both will have an idea with whom they are talking because of the digital verification. Secondly, to prevent this, it is best to avoid open Wi-Fi networks and if it is necessary then use PLUGINS like HTTPS, Forced TLS etc.
