(i) Explain the formation of (a) water gas (b) Producer gas. Give their uses.(ii) What happens when CO2 is passed through lime water?(a) For short duration(b) For long duration.

Answer»

(i) Preparation of water gas and producer gas-

(a) C(s) + H2O(g) → CO(g) + H2(g)

(b) 2C(s) + O2 + 4N2 (g) → 2CO(g) + 4N2 (g) (Producer gas)

Water gas and producer gas are used as fuel.

(ii) (a) Ca(OH)2 + CO2 → Ca(HCO3)2 (Soluble)

(ii) (a) Ca(OH)2 + CO2 → Ca(HCO3)2 (Soluble)
