In a right angled triangle if hypotenuse is 20 cm and the ratio of the other two sides is 4:3,find the sides.

Answer»

Using Pythagoras' theorem, a² + b² = c²

Find X:

a² + b² = c²

(4x)² + (3x)² = 20²

16x² + 9x² = 400

25x² = 400

x² = 16

x = √16

x = 4

Find the sides:

3x = 4 x 3 = 12 cm

4x = 4 x 4 = 16 cm

Answer: The two sides are 12cm and 16CM
