Answer» <p>Hydra, a small freshwater commonest polyp, is readily obtainable coelenterate. It serves a good example from the coelenterates to illustrate the fundamental characteristics of Metazoa. Leeuwenhoek (1702), first described it to the Royal Society of London but Trembley (1744) recognised its animal nature. Reaumur called it a polyp, while Linnaeus gave the name Hydra because of its special power of regeneration</p>
