In Question obtain the frequency of revolution of the electron in its circular orbit. Does the answer depend on the speed of the electron ? Explain .

Answer»

Solution :Frequency`v = (e B)/(2 pi m_e) = (1.6 xx 10^(-19) xx 6.5 xx 10^(-4))/(2 xx 3.14 xx 9.1 xx 10^(-31)) = 18 xx 10^(6) Hz or 18 MHz`
This frequency is independent of the SPEED of the electron, We know that RADIUS of path ` r = (m_e . v)/(e B)`
i.e., `r PROP v`. Consequently, the ratio `v/r` and hence `v/(2 pi r)`, which is equal to the time of one revolution (T), remains constant and independent of the speed. Consequenty frequency `v = 1/T` is independent of speed.
