Iodine forms I_3^(-)but F_2 does not form F_(3)^(-) ions. Why?

Answer»

SOLUTION :IODINE FORMS `I_(3)^(-)` by accepting ELECTRONS from `I^-`in its vacant d-orbitals but `F_2` due to the ABSENCE of vacant d-orbitals does not accept electrons from `F^-` to form `F_3^-`ions.
