Answer» Solution :(i) In MONOCHLORO acetic acid, the -I effect of CHLORINE (electron WITHDRAWING group) increases its STRENGTH. (ii) This effect weakens the -O-H BOND. There by facilitating the removal of `H^(+)` from -OH group. This acid `(ClCH_(2)COOH)` becomes stronger than formic acid. |
