Methyl amine in water reacts with ferric chloride to precipitate hydrated ferric oxide. Give reasons. |
|
Answer» Due to electron releasing methyl group (+I effect) , methyl amine is more basic than water. Thus it produces OH- ions by accepting H+ ions from water. CH3-NH2 + H-OH → CH3NH3+ + OH Ferric chloride dissociates into water to form Fe3+ & Cl- ions. OH- ions reacts with Fe3+ ions to form a ppt of hydrated ferric oxide. 2Fe3+ + 6OH- → Fe2O3.3H2O |
