Both the devices work because ofelectromagneticinduction, which is when a voltage is induced by a changing magnetic field. The modern-daygeneratorworks on theprincipleof electromagnetic induction discovered by Michael Faraday in 1831-32.Faraday discovered that the above flow ofelectriccharges could be induced by moving an electricalconductor, such as a wire that containselectriccharges, in a magnetic field.
