In series combination

Net resistance, Rs= R1+ R2= 20+20 = 40 Ω

Power consumed = P1= V2/Rs--------(1)

In parallel combination

Net resistance, Rp=R1R2/R1+R2= 20 x 20 /20+20 = 10 Ω

Power consumed = P2= V2/Rp ----------(2)

Now ratio of the power consumed:

P1/P2= Rp/Rs

P1/P2= 10 / 40 = 1/4
