Answer» Functional group is an atom or a group of atoms which largely determines the physical and chemical property of the compound. Commonly known as ethyl alcohol. Its chemical formula is C2H6O. Also can bewrittenas CH3CH2OH .It contains one methyl group (CH3-) , one methylene group (-CH2-) and hydroxyl group (-OH).Here (-OH) is the functional group. The molecules containing -OH group are alcohols. Acetic acid is also known asethanoic acid, its chemical symbol is represented by CH3COOH. It contains the carboxyl group, -COOH. Members of this group (carboxylicacids) groups are polar substances, i.e their molecules can form strong hydrogen bonds with each other and also with water. |
