Ray optics is based on the assumption that light travels in a straight line. Diffraction effects (observed when light propagates through small apertures/slits or around small obstacles) disprove this assumption. Solution :REASON is exactly same as in part (d). In most of the optical instruments size of INSTRUMENT is much greater than the wavelength of light. As a result, DIFFRACTION of light has negligible effect and we may apply principles of ray optics WITHOUT any hesitation.
