Answer» Solution :Electromagnets are used in ELECTRIC bells. When current passes through the coil, the electromagnet attracts a metallic PLATE. The hammer attached to this metallic plate hits this gong and produces sound. When the plate is attracted by the electromagnet, it breaks the circuit and the electromagnet stops work-ing as a magnet and after hitting the gong, the plateretains its contact with contact scre. INSTEAD of an electromagnet, if we USE a NORMAL magnet, the metal-lic plate cannot regin its original contact.
