1.

SF_6 is known but SCl_6 is not. Why ?

Answer»

SOLUTION :This is due to (i) Small size of fluorine (ii) HIGH electronegativity of fluorine. Fluorine being highly electronegative can oxidize sulphur to (+6) oxidation STATE and can be accomodated easily due to its small size.
Chlorine on the CONTRARY, cannot be accomodated due to its LARGE size. Thus, `SCl_6` does not exist.
