`SF_(6)` is not easily hydrolysed whereas `SF_(4)` can be. Assign reason. |
Answer» In `SF_(4)`, the sulphur atom has `+4` oxidation state and can extend the same to `+6` by accepting electron pairs from `H_(2)O` molecules. Therefore, it can be hydrolysed. But in `SF_(6)`, the oxidation state of sulphur is already `+6` and cannot increase the same any more. Therefore, it cannot be easily hydrolysed.
