1.

Show that the capacitance of an insulated spherical conductor is directly proportional to the radius of the conductor.

Answer»

Solution :Since the capacitance of a conductor C is given by
`C=(Q)/(V)` . . (i)
Potential of sphere of radius R is given by
`V=(1)/(4piepsi_(0))(Q)/(r)` . . (ii)
Putting eq. (ii) in eq. we GET
`C=(Q)/((1)/(4piepsi_(0))(Q)/(r))=4piepsi_(0)r`
or `Cpropr`
i.e. capacitance of a spherical conductor is directly proportional to the radius of the conductor.
