Answer» Hi,
A friend of mine gave me an old computer to get running for her. It was a no name brand and had win98 on it originally with 128mb ram. She tried to install XP home vers 2002 on it but never activated it. I got it activated and loaded. It had a CONFLICT between the ethernet card and the sound card so i removed the sound card and was ABLE to connect it to the INTERNET. After 100 updates it finally had current software incl xp service pack 2 and IE7. Now here is the problem. The proccesor is a AMD K-64 400 Mhz. I put in 1 256mb pc100 ram stick and 2 128mb pc100 ram sticks for a total of 512K of ram. It WOULD seem like that would be enough memory but whenever i go online, (cable CONNECTION at 6Mmbs through a router), the cpu usage is 100% and IE7 is using 90 to 95 % of that constantly and the pages load up like slow dialup. I even tried downloading a small movie clip and when i tried it in media player it played back very choppy and media player was doing the same thing 90-95 % of cpu usage. Needless to say this is very annoying and not good. I am thinking that the proccesor is just too slow. Is there anything i could do or should i update her to a new computer?
Sorry for the long post,
Thanks
BA I don't think, you can run XP in a fine fashion with 400MHz processor. You may try Windows 2K. I run it on 466MHz machine.
