Solve : 64 bit CPU with 32 bit apps?

Answer»

Windows XP Pro (32 bit) is installed on a 1.8 GHz 64 bit AMD Athlon with 1.5GB of RAM and I'm attepmting to run Lightwave 3D (32 bit edition). There is no video card. The program/draw rate is insufferably slow. I was just wondering if there was the potential for any conflicts to arrise because of a 32 bit OS and application running on a 64 bit processor. Several other 3D modeling applications are used, and those run at a good speed which inclines me to believe that the problem is not solely because of the lack of a video card. Its only Lightwave that chokes. The computer is well mannered in every other way.

Any good suggestions or links about the interaction of 64 bit processors with 32 bit apps? Thanks in advance.

P.S. Is there anything special that has to be taken into account when buying a GRAPHICS card for a 64 bit processor? Does it being an AMD add any VARIABLES?

It doesn't matter what processor (32 or 64) that you run with windows 32. you won't get the benefit of having a 64 bit in a 32 bit environment, but it will run just as good as a 32. to take advantage of your 64 bit processor you can get windows 64, but that requires special DRIVERS and such and really is more of a pain than it's worth right now. there really are no special considerations for buying a video card for a 64 bit processor, but as a note, AMD processors generally run games better than intels. as to your programs choking, different programs have different requirements and getting a vid card will probably FIX the solution.
