Solve : A PC for Gaming?

Answer»

Which PC would you recommend for me as my budget is from £350-£500(At a push) I will use for college work and also some PC games?
I don't mind getting an all in one PC or just a good tower and monitor etc. separately.
What would you recommend? Will you be building this, or buying it prebuilt?  What sort of gaming are you planning on doing - anything intensive?I don't recommand you a new pc because you need to spend more money to get a gaming computer... How old is yours? Maybe you can replace some part of your computer instead or you should wait to save more money if you want a decent gaming computer.Build it yourself mate, this is an example build http://pcpartpicker.com/p/yspYt6, try to get something like this and if it costs to much where you live, change the GPU to an amd r9 280 Quote from: verystrengt on March 14, 2015, 01:44:30 PM

Significantly over budget once you include an operating system and as it is you would want to swap that build to have dual channel memory and a motherboard that supports features that have been commonplace for the last several years (Native USB 3.0, SATAIII). 580$>500£? Also he didn't specify if he wanted Linux or Windows(but he can STILL buy it)

SURE you can swap to 2x4GB(for that full 2 fps increase), what cheap mobo would you recommend if he ever decides to get an SSD or an USB3 stick
You can't just convert the currency, parts are more expensive in the UK.  That build works out to around £500 without an OS and you can generally assume that most people will be likely to expect a copy of Windows in their budget, you can't just leave it out.

You could get a matched pair of RAM for pretty much the same price so putting a single stick in has no benefit other than future expansion (Which shouldn't be an issue if you are getting a decent board with 4 RAM slots).

For a board you would need something with at least a 970 chipset from a decent brand such as Gigabyte or ASUS, unfortunately this would have to be ATX so the case would need upgraded too.  At the AM3+ LEVEL, AMD do not have anything decent at the MicroATX form factor unfortunately. For what it is worth, here is a project where he takes a older PC and upgrades it up. to a gamer.
