Solve : AC Power Inverters and compatability?

Answer»

I have an HP laptop (model and make at home...of course), 1 1/2 YRS old. my AC power supply went out and it will be a few days before I have another one. I did find an inverter/cable from my WORK laptop (dell latitude E6510) and it has the same business end on it, with the same polarity as my hp. It is not the same output. HP output is 18.5V/3.5A, and Dell output is 19.5V/4.62A. Will I damage my HP laptop, by using the Dell AC power inverter for a few days??
Thank you for any help / advise you can offer.People often mix and MATCH laptop power bricks. The voltage needs to be around 18 to 20 volts, the laptop regulates it down to suit. Considering that you can get "UNIVERSAL" "19 volt" (nominal) power supplies for laptops, that come with a range of different "business ends" -- the one below is 19v 4.74A, I expect you'll be OK.

Maybe it sounds fishy - but Salmon Trout is RIGHT.
