hi ive got a acer aspire notebook {1690}..it has a faulty dvd/cd writer,the thing is the faulty writer is slot loading and all that seems to be for sale on ebay are tray loading writers..the question is would it be ok to INSTALL a tray loading writer into the notebook..when i ask on ebay if the writer will fit ok they say that most are standard,one person said i might have a problem with the bezal{dont know what that is}..any help would be appreciated..thanks theted...i can send some pics of the faulty writer ... Well, one thing I can tell you is that the Acer site SUCKS! Absolutely worthless.

The bezel is the plastic, usually the front part of a computer where your cdrom drives, floppy drives are available from the front.

thanks anyway..i'll take a chance and buy the tray loading one..THERES one going for £20..its the same model ...hope it works ok ...hi,i managed to get a internal dvd/cd writer for for my acer espire notebook [1690]..it FITS the slot ok and its recognised when i OPEN "my computer",,the trouble now is when i click to open the disc nothing show's up just a blank PAGE...ive tried dvd movies and music cd,s...hope someone can help me with this problem....kind regard,s john...
