Solve : Acomdata external hard drive became a CD!!!?

Answer»

Hello,

I bought Acomdata external hard drive a few MONTHS ago. Transferred many valuable files on it (family pictures, etc.). Yesterday, tried to delete a large file that was saved on it. Took too long so I rebooted the external drive and computer, possibly in the middle of the delete PROCESS. After reboot, the external hard drive doesn't show anymore on my windows XP 'my computer' (it used to show as something like: D:HD_PART).

The odd thing is that it now appears as a CD drive icon in 'my computer'. If I click on this icon it prompts me to insert a CD and I can't see my files. Will I be able to access my all TIME favorite files How PLEASE help!Right click My Computer and select Manage...then Disk Management.
Find the external and rifght click it and select Properties and report back with the details...

BTW it hasn't become a CD drive...your existing drive letter designations have changed since something happened and D: was re-assigned to the CD drive.

My guess is the external was un-plugged prematurely and is going to be reported as RAW in properties...Thanks for reply!

OK, I found it in the disk management (It's called CD-ROM 1 and has the letter F:). When I click properties it is identified as DMI USB2.0 CD-ROM USB Device. It also says that the device works properly...

I noticed that when I right-click on the F: I get the option to change the letter and path. Do you THINK that can help?No you are looking at the CD drive...you need to find the external HDD in Disk Management.
