Solve : Add Ram?

Answer»

Could someone please advice
At the moment i have 512 mb ram and i want to increase this to 1GB .

1, Will i have to buy 1GB or can i add 512 to the ram i already have.

PC3200 DDR SDRAM this the one in my computer at the moment (Everest)
LOOKING on ebay i see you can buy these as a pair or just buy the 1GB which works out expensive.

2, How difficult is it to do myself or will i have to take it to computer shop to install.
SkyblueRAM is probably the easiest thing to put into your computer.
As soon as you open up your case, you will see where it goes... and there's only one way it can go into the SLOT.

You can buy another 512Mb stick. as long as its the same speed. (I.e. if you buy a PC3200 and a PC6400 stick and put them both in, they will both run at PC3200) So you can just buy another 512Mb PC3200 DDR stick and put it into your mobo.

Let us know how you get on 1. get a 512 stick to add to the one you have.

2. make sure it is the exact same type ie ...pc3200 with the same "latency timings"

3. the exact same brand would be nice but not critical

finally you'll be running in what they call dual channel mode.... read up on how to install the new 512 stick in your particular motherboard (which slot to put the new stick in )*

dual channel mode runs very well, it would be my preference over one stick at 1 gig.........

it is very EASY to add or change ram, ground yourself before sticking hands in the case and make sure that your power cord is unplugged from the rear of your case before changing the ram.

you will really like the bump in speed GOING to 1 gig !!!! Quote from: honvetops on July 03, 2007, 03:49:38 AM

Same here. For some reason, always have... even before I knew the actual differences

No doubt.I have 2 gigs on my new puter and 1 gig on my emachine deluxe << lmao

I usually always surf on my emachine and when I changed over from 512 to the 1 gig, that was when I really noticed how "FAST" that extra ram was.
I actually can't notice the difference between 1 gig or 2 gigs .......
At that point my guess would be that the cpu makes the difference*
