Answer» Good day and thank you for reading. A few weeks ago, I got a old Dell Optiplez GX 270 tower from my father who got a new laptop. The problem is that it didn't come with RAM for some reason.
After I got new RAM (2x 512MB Kingston DDR PC3200 400MHz) and placed them in, The computer made two short beeps and the display didn't start up. Now every time I start up and attach the MONITOR, it recognizes it for a second and begins to show the screen, but then it turns off as if there is NOTHING connected.
If any other information is needed, I'll be happy to provide it. Thank you very much for reading and possibly responding.Oh, and also there are four letter in the back of the tower underneath the monitor input port (ABCD). The A, B, and C letters are green-lit and the letter D is orange.First thing, check out HTTP://support.dell.com/. See if they have any manuals that would be helpful for you.
It looks like you picked out the correct memory for the computer. Look at the Post Beep Codes.
If I were you, I would disconnect EVERYTHING in the computer. EVERYTHING. Now, plug everything in one at a time (wear a static band). Remember to not force anything. Each piece should always slide right into place. If you received the computer without memory, there could be something else wrong with it. You could have a bad power supply, CPU (probably not), or something like your NIC card isn't seated properly. Clean as you go.
I'm not there but I can almost guarantee you that this is something shorted out or not seated correctly. As you work, make SURE the CPU is in (with fan), power supply and memory. Try and boot with just those parts. See what you get. Thank you for the suggestion, I will do that right away and reply the results A.S.A.P.Well, I did everything that was said, and now it is giving me a totally different sequence of beeps when I start it up. I guess it was my fault...
Long beep...pause...three long beeps...pause...two long beeps.
Should I take it in to get repaired or is it totally...dead?
