A friend who has recently change his computer is kindly giving me his old one (for a small fee)
I am think of keeping it as a spare and perhaps in the future i could upgrade it.
Not sure of the spec but i know it runs very slow age i expect , and the o\s is windows 2000
Can you tell me the best WAY to clean it up i mean wipe it clean because i expect there is quite a lot of crap on it.
And is it possible to install windows XP from the disc that came with my own computer if yes how would i go about this ?

Buy a copy of Windows, format the drive and load it.

No, you cannot do that.
You can use your XP cd to format the drive, and you can install XP from your cd provided that the hardware MEETS the XP minimum specifications.

Microsoft permits users to run XP for 30 days without activation. However you will not be able to ACTIVATE the installed copy of XP, and the 30-day period will expire without activation, thereby causing you to LOSE the OS. Activation is permitted on one pc only at any time, I presume activation was necessary on your main pc.

To install XP put the disk in the cdrom and boot. If you cannot boot from the disk it might be necessary for you to change the bios setting to boot from the cdrom first.

In the long term you may WISH to donate some $$$ and buy another genuine Win.XP cd.

Good luckWhat is the manufacturers name and model number? :-?Win2K is an extremely stable version of Windows...
Did he give you the Win2K CD with the machine ? ?
If so just format and re-install.

If not call him back and ask for it.
