Answer»

Hello everyone,
I recently ran a DIAGNOSTIC on my DELL OPTIPLEX GX150 WITH A PENTIUM 3 PROCESSOR AND WINDOWS XP SP2 OP.It said that my hd was operating above normal specs and the SMART DIAGNOSTICS on the hd said that it has detected eminate failure and back up my data. Also that my INTEL 81X GMCH AIMM MEMORY failed the diagnostic test to.I know to change out the hd or do I. WHAT I DON'T KNOW IS WHAT IS AIMM MEMORY AND WHAT DOES IT DO AND CAN I FIX IT. Is it the memory sticks or something else. So what i need is HELP, links, and suggestions on how to fix this problem. my comp is running fine everything else passed.Solet me know what i can do.

thank you,
bmacgurk Precisely what tool did you use for the diagnostic? Was it something you downloaded of the Internet?hi NEIL ,
i used a dell optiplex resource cd it was with the comp when i got

bmacgurkBack up that HDD ASAP if you value the data...
As to the memory errors the GX1_Man will be along shortly to sort that.
Have you checked at the Dell Forums for more info ? ?The below is for reference but,as said by patio "Let's wait on GX1_Man".

You'll need a blank floppy. This will test your memory. It will take an hour or two to run... After it has done at least 1 pass (the more passes, the more accurate the test, but the longer it takes), look at the number of errors you have.thanks neil and patio,
i have memorytest 86 on a floppy but haven't used it yet.
thanks for the referance on ebay i'll look at it more closely. But it still don't tell me what it is and what it does.I'll wait for gx1 man to tell me what it is ,but in the mean time i still would like to know if defraging the hd might help?

thanks guys,
bmacgurk

ps sorry so long between posts 12hour shifts make a long day
sorry street1 i didn't mean to leave you out.

I don't think defragging the harddrive would help. In the mean time, back up your important files (don't wait!) and try the memtest.I just don't see why you couldn't use an AGP graphics card in place of the
aimm card.

Maybe, instead of 4MB graphics You COULD have 16MB or more.hi street1 and neil
defraging i know is not much an option.and street1 i didn't even know that i had such a thing in there lol
i see what i can do about the card. Thanks everyone for the help.I learned something new which is nice.

thanks
bmacgurk
