Solve : All of my Icons and my tool bar are missing from my desktop?

Answer»

When I logged on this morning, my monitor was a solid purple screen. Everything was gone. What can I do to restore my desktop?restart your computer. anything unsaved that you were working on?Try this too in CASE!

1. Right click at desktop.
2. Choose "arrange icons by"
3. Click "show desktop icons

Also try
1)Open the Task Manager(ctrl+alt+del)
2)Once in the Task Manager go to Processes tab and  click on File in the Task Manager menu.
3)Select New Task (Run...) and TYPE explorer.exe in the "open" field.
4)Click OK.

Could help!!None of these things helped. I didn't realize that my computer didn't SHUT down yesterday, so I'm not sure if something was still pulled up when I hit the power button this morning. You could also Post an HJT log in the Malware section cause sometimes it can be some malware infection too, till someone like Patio shows up here.

Hold on , I'm sure this will be solved soon

Best of luck! Quote from: JEFFGORDONFAN on June 17, 2008, 10:28:57 AM

I'm a little confused about what you did. Did you power off your computer, or did you just leave it on since there was something on it? Remember that if the system is not responding, hitting the power button may not turn off the computer, you will need to hold the power button for up to ten seconds or pull the power cord in the back.

Does the mouse or keyboard respond? Does ctrl+alt+del work?I thought I had shut the computer down last night, but for whatever REASON, it did not shut down and I didn't realize this until I hit the power button this morning. control, alt, delete,  does bring up the windows security box. The mouse & keyboard work. The problem is that I still can't get my icons back on my desktop. "start" is also MISSING off of the screen along with all of the other info that is usually across the bottom of the screen. I think I need more caffeine. I still can't tell if you said you restarted your computer or not. Did you, in fact, turn your computer off since your first post?
