Answer» I run a Gateway desktop. A few days ago I unplugged my ipod SUDDENLY, and right after that, all my USB devices stopped working. I know there is no proble whatsoever with my ipod, tablet, mouse, etc because I've all tried them on different computers and the power works. Right now I use a non-optical mouse on a P2 (wrong name?) outlet, one of the green ones. Windows does not even detect new hardware. There is no bubble or anything that pops up when I plug in a device. It has BECOME incredibly frustrating.
I've been searching online non-stop trying to find a solution and none have worked so far. I deleted the USB root hubs and ports so the computer would reinstall them, tried a few drivers, even fiddled with the BIOS PNP settings and no cigar. Please help. I'm really not computer savvy so some simple enough steps would help alot. Can you give us a little more information about your system...SPECIFICALLY, Windows operating system?I READ a lot about--->KB918005(v4) <---update for XP and the USB related problems.
Uninstall the optional update KB918005(v4) if recently installed.
I am assuming you have Windows XP.Yes, I have Windows XP and I don't think I've installed the KB918005(v4) ..So, what all updates do you need from Microsoft?
Have you used the Automatic-updates from microsoft?
In the,Control Panel,Double click on Automatic Updates, and see how it is set.
The updates not only help with security but, they also help with hardware problems....etc..
