Answer» Hi all, I'm new here, but intend to be sticking around!
Basically, I'm building a system for my brother to use, as his recently CONKED out entirely. I've got everything installed, and supposedly running well, apart from one thing.
I have a genuine AMD ATHLON XP 2800+ CPU mounted on an MSI KT4 Ultra motherboard.
When I boot the PC, the CPU shows as an AMD Athlon 2600+ as opposed to a 2800+. I've tried fiddling with multipliers, etc, but almost every time the PC simply refuses to boot at all, and i have to return the BIOS to deafult in order to try and fail again.
If anyone has any SUGGESTIONS, I'd very much appreciate them. Specs are as follows:
AMD Athlon XP 2800+ MSI KT4 Ultra Motherboard (Running version 1.10) Crucial 512MB DDR400 RAM Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 250GB HDD running windows XP
Cheers,
Liamare you 100% sure that the 2800+ isnt actually a 2600+? maybe you got the wrong chip.It MAY be as simple as your BIOS mis-reporting the CPU... DLoad CPU-Z
