Solve : AMD 'Features' Confusion? |
|
Answer» Is AMD renaming "Cool 'n' Quite" to "Power Now" or is there a difference between the two? I haven't done any research. ... Quote from: BC_Programmer on February 21, 2011, 11:24:33 AM PowerNow is the old one. Cool and Quiet is what is is called now. PowerNow! is used with AMD laptop CPUs. The adaptation for AMD's DESKTOP CPUs is called Cool'n'Quiet. Newer Opterons ("e-stepping" - model 252 and later) also use an adaptation of PowerNow! called Optimized Power Management. ahh, OK, so PowerNow! is older, but it still exists. I wasn't sure if they had simply renamed it or wether they actually introduced a new technology to complement it. Seems like the latter. From what I can gather, C'n'Q is a adaptation of Powernow! for desktop and server CPUs. So does "Cool 'n' Quite" also dynamicaly over clock the CPU like intel's "Turbo Boost" Or is it only a power/noise saving feature? Obviously less power=Less heat so it could be conceived that way. Quote [Sorry for late reply, have been in a 2 day minecraft induced coma] I saw my first slime thanks to the 1.3 UPDATE today. Too bad the SMP I usually join needs to be updated...Oh my god update! |
