Answer» Hi.
I am having some issues with my on-board audio device/drivers. I recently upgraded from an old VIA mobo to a newer one [new board is a Asrock 4coreDual - SATA2 R2.0], and everything except the sound comes up fine. I've browsed the internet for hours trying to figure out what the issue may be.
I've tried to download and install the UAA hotfix that was mentioned on several sites, but as I am running WinXP Pro (SP3), the FILE does not install. I have looked in my Add/Remove Programs to see if there are any old audio drivers, and there are none listed. In Device Manager, I cannot uninstall the device, it gives an error saying the device may be NEEDED to boot.
When I try to install the proper drivers [Realtek High Definition Audio DRIVER], I get the error: 0XE0000227 "Driver Installation Failure".
The only thing I haven't done is go into the registry, as I saw was mentioned on a few sites. I am not sure what I'd be looking for.. My old Audio Drivers were the AC'97 Drivers; could this present a CONFLICT if the old drivers are not properly removed? Will the windows repair console take care of this issue, or am I simply missing something?
I did have one other device in the Device Manager that was "unknown". I was able to remove this device and it did not show again when I rebooted the system; I have no clue what the device could have been or why it wasn't working properly, everything before the Motherboard change was working perfectly and I haven't added any new components except the new Motherboard and processor.
Any help with this is appreciated! Have you installed the chipset drivers for the motherboard? It could be that those need to be installed first. Like I said, everything came up just fine. Windows loaded properly, everything was perfect except for the sound drivers; all I got was that Error everytime I tried to load the drivers.
So I decided to reinstall windows, formatted my drive [complete format, so there are no old files or drivers/devices/registry errors to possibly mess things up]. I go to install windows, and after the initial installation, the machine reboots itself and continues installation. I get the screen where it is continuing the installation and splashes the Windows XP features. Approx Time Remaining: 39 Minutes.
After about 1 minute of waiting, the machine suddenly turns off by itself. It does this every time at this point in the installation. I have no idea why, I have used the same Installation Disc many TIMES to do this with this system.
Could it be that I would need to install the VIA chipset drivers first, before Windows can be installed? I have issues doing this without Windows, as it asks for a Floppy Disk to be inserted to create some sort of database if I boot from the motherboard's Driver disc, and I do not currently have a Floppy Drive installed.
Tomorrow I will try to install windows again after I put my old Motherboard and Processor setup back in the machine. I had no issues doing clean installs with fresh Hard Drives before, so I'm curious if its something I'm missing with the new Motherboard.
My system was working fine, and I could have settled without sound as a minor inconvenience, but my impatience got the best of me and now nothing works at all.
Any help is greatly appreciatedI managed to complete the installation when I got home this morning, after leaving my computer unplugged all night. More than likely the rebooting was due to overheating, as when I attempted the install before the computer had been running for hours.
The Drivers have now installed correctly and I get some sound. Seems that certain applications cannot recognize the sound device and do not operate [Windows Media Player] but the sound in other applications like games work perfectly.
I guess I'll have to settle, its working well enough for me and I've had my last headache over it.
Thanks.
